This Plaque is individually made by Crafts men for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions of 1940 – Limerick, with a Hand Painted crest in cold cast Bronze and a Painting of the Team by Brian O’Flaherty. In the All-Ireland Final of 1940, Limerick gave a brilliant display of hurling and dethroned reigning champions Kilkenny. It was a closely fought contest which kept the 50,000 fans on the edge of their seats. In the closing stages of the game Limerick pulled away from their opponents. It was a historic day for the Munster county as their minors defeated Antrim by the score line of 6-4 to 2-4 making it a double celebration. Limerick’s Captain “the great” Mick Mackey lifted the cup as jubilant Limerick fans cheered on their heroes.
