Kerry won the All-Ireland Senior Football Final of 1946, in what was one of the most exciting clashes seen at Croke Park for many years. In the drawn game Kerry produced a ”Houdini” act by scoring two dramatic goals in the closing stages to force a replay. For the second encounter Kerry fields a much changed side, with their speed and skill they overpowered the western men. Thus the Sam Maguire Cup made another yearly visit to the Kingdom. The following year the Kerry men would contest the famous “Polo Grounds” final with Cavan.
