Kildare All-Ireland Senior Football Champions 1928

£120.00

This Plaque is individually made by Crafts men for the All-Ireland Senior Football Champions of 1928 – Kildare, with a Hand Painted crest in cold cast Bronze and a Painting of the Team by Brian O’Flaherty.

When Kildare defeated Cavan in the All-Ireland Senior Football Final of 1928, they created a unique record which was not repeated until 1977. Having beaten Kerry in the Final of 1927 they fielded the same 15 players in identical positions for the finals of both years. The game itself was a tough uncompromising encounter, with the Breffni Boys proving to be worthy opponents for the Lily Whites. A point in the dying moments by Bill Mangan was the difference between the sides. Bill “Squires” Gannon became the first captain to lift the Sam Maguire Cup.
