Caltra All-Ireland Club Football Champions 2004
While Michael Meehan was named man of the match, it was a super all-round performance by Caltra. Kevin Kilroy was outstanding in goal, while Jarlath Murray, Enda Meehan and Brian Kilroy did what was asked of them. Kevin Gavin and Oisin Kelly were superb, while Declan Meehan caused huge problems to the Kerry side. Repeatedly blocking and chasing, it was his darting runs out of defence and his quality delivery to the forwards that pressurised the Kerry rearguard, John Galvin came to assist Tomás Meehan and Damien Cunniffe as he excelled in the second half. Brian Laffey, Matthew Killilea, and Shane Hogan all played their part in attack, but it was Noel and Michael Meehan who were once again the target players, scoring 11 points between them.
The relief of the final whistle as the Kerry Club side pressed for another score was unbelievable and supporters rushed on to the hallowed turf of Croke Park to hug, kiss and clap their heroes. Migrants from the Parish from all parts of Ireland, emigrants who travelled from the U.S.A., England and other foreign lands were there in numbers as well as people from Caltra and indeed surrounding parishes. The winning feeling and excitement was very special for all. The Andy Merrigan Cup was presented to Captain Noel Meehan as Pronsias Kitt and Oliver Hennelly sang the “Flower of Caltra” while the crowd in green and white enjoyed a very special few moments of success.
