The final was overshadowed by what is still regarded as the one of the best matches of all time – the Dublin – Kerry semi – final. But it has its own claim to fame and ended up equalling the goal scoring record for a final. Dublin were hot favourites after the legendary win over Kerry but Armagh had come through as the north’s first finalists since Down in 1968 and and quality footballers such as Paddy Moriarty, Joe Kernan and Jimmy Smyth.
