Cork All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions 2004
£34.50
Kilkenny came into the final as the defending champions after the previous year’s win over Cork and were the better side for much of the opening half.
They didn’t capitalise on their chances however and should have taken a bigger lead into the half-time break, leading by a single point, 0-07 to 0-06.
Then came the second half, where Kilkenny tagged on two points by the 47th minute from placed balls by Henry Shefflin, but remarkably that would be in the end of their scoring for the game.
Cork pushed on upfront and Kilkenny found it hard to break down Cork’s famed half-back line of John Gardiner, Ronan Curran and Seán Óg Ó hAilpín.
The Rebels tagged on nine points without reply in the remaining 25 minutes of the game with two each from Niall McCarthy, Joe Deane and captain Ben O’Connor and a point each from Kieran Murphy Tom Kenny and Brian Corcoran helping to seal a famous win. Back: Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Ronan Curran, Jonothan O’Callaghan, Pat Muleahy, John Browne, Paul Tirney, Garvan McCarthy, Brian Corcoran, John Gardiner, Wayne Sherlock,Tom Kenny, Donal Óg Cusack, Seán Óg Ó hAilpein, Martin Coleman, James Bowles, John Anderson.
